Story Introduction

Quinn is a sweet young lady with a complex and rare medical condition. This family is strong, but they struggle daily. It is scary, and draining – emotionally, physically and financially – to have a loved one who is ill, and not have any answers as to why or what the future holds. This family deserved a lift to their spirits.

Story Introduction

Sharie & Randall are the parents of 4 kids that need extra love and attention. After Randall was diagnosed with cancer again a lift was needed for their spirits.

July 2017

Story Introduction

Laurie is a single mom who was diagnosed with esophageal and stomach cancer. After experiencing several months of pain the cancer was determined to be stage 3. Five weeks of chemo and radiation followed by six – eight weeks of recovery, followed by an intense surgery is what Laurie has been experiencing and has yet to experience. There will be a very long recovery ahead after surgery. Laurie is self-employed and unable to work due to the illness.

Story Introduction

Dan & his family came to Canada from Romania approximately 9 years ago. He was laid off in October 2016. He managed to secure another job just recently but does not know if it is permanent. His wife is unable to work due to health conditions. He would not say that he needed any help at any time. Dan will be the first one to help anyone out. While he was unemployed he was volunteering at the food bank as well as taking friend’s children to medical appointments (with his gas which he really couldn’t afford to do). He helps out other members of his church family as well. He is a great Dad to his boys, has taught them good manners and respect for others. Dan deserves a hand up.

Story Introduction

The regular Airdrie Angel recipient for the month of May is anonymous due to her previous relationship. She is a low income single mother of 3 children. This lady was recently let go from her job as her daughter was unexpectedly ill and she had to miss work to care for her. She was getting behind on her rent due to this unfortunate situation that kept her from work. The nominator said that the recipient “could use a little pick me up and a smile and I think being chosen for Airdrie Angel would give her a little boost of encouragement to keep going strong. I am amazed by her spirit, drive and compassion.”

The recipient recently started a new job and is doing everything she can to get caught up financially. She’s exactly the kind of person we want to help.

Mother’s Day Special Recipient, May 2017

Story Introduction

The Mother’s Day recipient is Katharine, who was nominated by a friend. Katharine recently moved to Alberta to be near family…and enjoy the grandchildren…to watch them grow. She loves being a mother. Not long after her arrival she was diagnosed with cancer. Despite the diagnosis, and current treatments, Katharine has the biggest smile, and never complains. Family is so important to her. Katharine has a long road ahead with treatments; this experience has put their lives on hold. There are increases financially – for gasoline and parking everyday – as they seek medical treatment. The nominator stated “Katharine and her husband must be getting tired BUT show no signs of giving up. They need a lift-up for their spirits. They could use a bit of joy.”

Story Introduction

April’s recipient is a senior named Neil who has had a string of bad luck and needs some support. He has had several medical issues, which have resulted in him no longer being able to drive; in addition he recently lost his two cat companions. Neil needed a lift and we are glad we could be there for him.
